Hookipa Beach - Maui, Hawaii
Hookipa is the cathedral of wave windsurfing. This beach on the north shore of Maui is legendary for its epic conditions and professional atmosphere. It has been the stage for world championships and sessions immortalized in videos that inspired generations.
Best Conditions
High season: November to March. The northeast trade winds (15-30 knots) combine with 2-4 meter waves (or more on big days). Conditions are milder in summer (June-August), ideal for wave initiation.
Recommended Level
Advanced to professional for winter. Waves are powerful and the lineup is full of experienced riders. Respect local hierarchy. In summer, intermediate riders can enjoy with caution.
Practical Tips

All levels. Langebaan is perfect for progression (flat water, consistent). Big Bay is intermediate. Sunset Beach requires experience in waves and strong currents.
Practical Tips
Beware of white sharks (mainly in Muizenberg, avoid murky waters). Wind can be very strong and cold, bring 4/3mm or 3/2mm wetsuit. Local community is welcoming, many schools and repair shops.
Dakhla - Morocco

March to October. North trade winds blow 15-30 knots almost every day. The lagoon ("Speed Spot", "Foum Labouir") has perfect flat water. The wave at "Lassarga" works with north swell.

All levels. Lagoon is ideal for beginners (shallow water, no waves, no currents). Advanced riders enjoy perfect conditions for freestyle. Wave requires experience.
Practical Tips
Kite camps offer all-inclusive (accommodation, food, transport to spots). Water can be cold in winter, consider 3/2mm. Thermal wind enters around noon, mornings are usually slack. It is a remote destination, bring spare parts and repair kit.
Jericoacoara - Brazil
"Jeri" is the tropical paradise of kitesurfing. This former fishing village in northeast Brazil combines consistent trade winds, warm water, freshwater lagoons and a relaxed atmosphere. It is impossible not to fall in love with this place.
Best Conditions
July to January. East trade winds blow 18-25 knots very consistently. Main spot is in front of town (side-shore right). Nearby lagoons (Lagoa do Paraíso, Lagoa Azul) offer perfect flat water.

All levels. Sea in front of Jeri is intermediate (small to medium waves, moderate current). Lagoons are perfect for beginners. Epic downwinders for advanced riders towards Preá.
Practical Tips
No ATMs inside Jeri, withdraw money before in Jijoca. Town is pedestrian (only buggies and horses). Sunset at Duna do Pôr do Sol is mandatory. Try buggy trip to lagoons (buggy rental + driver).
Cabarete - Dominican Republic
Cabarete put kitesurfing on the Caribbean map. "Kite Beach" is one of the most social spots in the world, with riders of all levels sharing the same small waves and warm water. The nightlife scene and beach atmosphere make it a complete destination.
Best Conditions
December to August. East trade winds blow 15-25 knots with great consistency. Perfect side-shore at Kite Beach. Wave conditions at "La Boca" (river mouth) for advanced riders.

Mauritius - Indian Ocean

One Eye works best with low/mid tide and south swell. Only attempt this wave if you master wave riding. For others, lagoons offer perfect and safe conditions. Water start on reef requires care (booties mandatory).

- Research the season: Each spot has its optimal window. Do not go to Hookipa in summer expecting epic waves, or to Jeri in April (slack wind).
